CATS IN THE CRADLE

Canzone tanto triste quanto stupenda questa"Cats in the cradle"scritta originariamente nel 1974 dal compianto cantautore statunitense Harry Chapin e ripresa negli anni novanta dalla band californiana degli Ugly Kid Joe,presentata nel loro album"America's least wanted"del 1992.
A quei tempi la line up vedeva il leader e cantante Whitfield Crane affiancato alla prima chitarra elettrica di Klaus Eichstadt ed a quella ritmica di Dave Fortman oltre al bassista Cordell Crockett ed al batterista Mark Davis.
La band ebbe un discreto successo nei primi anni novanta grazie anche a questa cover ed altre hit accompagnate da video in rotazione su Mtv,mentre negli ultimi anni si vocifera di una riunione del gruppo.
Il testo è toccante e malinconico e narra dell'incomunicabilità tra padre e figlio col rimpianto di non essersi conosciuti per nulla durante gli anni dell'infanzia e dell'adolescenza,un poco quello che accade a molti di noi,sullo sfondo di una musica malinconica che fa il verso ad una ninna nanna in chiave rock.

ma c'erano aerei da prendere e tasse da pagare
Ha imparato a camminare mentre io ero via
E non parlava prima che io lo conoscessi, e così lui è cresciuto
Lui direbbe " Sono diventato come te papà

vedi, il mio un lavoro è minacciato e i bambini hanno la febbre
ma è di certo bello parlare con te, Papà
E' stato sicuramente bello parlare con te"

E così io chiusi il telefono, è successo a me
